To Begin… Again.

Just a word to begin the launch of this new website… actually, it's not new, although the site has been un-updated or offline for quite some time.

Some of this has to do with my previous webhost but more because of those people who forgot they were a guests on my website and decided to hijack space on my forum to advertise their particular agenda. In the end it is really my fault, because by the time I had caught up with the problems, I was so far behind in monitoring content, and I had lost my momentum (and interest) only to discover that I had misplaced my password too.

Monopoly starting line

In the mix, add to this, I was struggling with what to do with my art. In earlier days I had enjoyed artistic expression in an objective way. I loved the landscape and found satisfaction creating them in oils on canvas.

Around 2010 I began to explore nonobjective painting and I found I was being drawn towards abstract art. As I experimented with color and shape as a way of artistic expression, I found this process was also satisfying. I think I just like to pant!

But five or six years later, I was questioning the value of nonobjective painting… and maybe, what is the worth of investing my time in painting at all. It was a tough time living in my head… and as for the website… it just kept on like a ghost ship lost on the ocean blue, without anybody in the captain’s chair and no real course of navigation set to anywhere!

This went on for years.

Yes, I did continue to paint and mostly (except for commissions and contracts) painting abstract work. I loosely have called the group of paintings done during that time the "Years of Molasses" series. It was an uncomfortable length of time, where I personally drifted in the fog of art… just like my website.

I hope I'll find time to elaborate on how I have come to today and the re-launch of my new-old website. Maybe I should drop that 'old' part from 'new website'… because whatever looks like the old one has only come through my memory. Yes, the guts inside, are all new. I lost most of my blogs,  and my forum activity to the previous web host - but - I still retain the painting images.

Although this brings me to a significant difference in the new vs the old. Before I wanted to post everything I'd ever done. Maybe like it was thinking of the website like my mom's refrigerator or something. Now, I've decided, I want to post my work… primarily my current work that is available to purchase although I'm sure some older work and commissions will find their way back here eventually. But for now, it's time to clean off the old refrigerator door and start again.

Well there you have it… my first blog on this new Art and Imagination of David L Friend website! Thanks for stopping by and I hope I can catch your interest to come back again and again.
